Within the Thornybush Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger, conservation is a daily responsibility. Protecting rhinos and other endangered species is critical to the survival of this wilderness. The Serondella Foundation*, which is funded by the Filum Foundation, supports the protection of these remarkable animals and helps ensure that the Greater Kruger remains a place of wonder, beauty and wildness for generations to come. It supports the Tango K9 Unit which works with highly trained dogs and their dedicated handlers who work tirelessly to track rhino-poachers and detect snares.
In addition, the Foundation supports the Wild dog collaring initiative within the reserve to protect endangered African wild dogs. The initiative is to track these endangered species, learn about their behavior but also, through GPS collaring, and geofencing, follow-up on the ground, sweeping snares and intervene with emergency veterinay response.
*) The Serondella Foundation is an officially established non-profit organisation under South African law (comparable to an ANBI in the Netherlands). The activities and objectives of the Serondella Foundation are funded by the Filum Foundation and fully aligned with it’s initiatives and objectives.
